The new study published in Open Access Maced J Med Sci. 2018 by Zhu et. al. indicated that acupuncture can be used to treat ovarian edometriotic cysts known as ‘chocolate’ cysts or ovarian endometriomas. Acupuncture has been proved to improve the circulation to ovaries and reduce the inflammation. This study reported a 29-year old woman with chronic pelvic pain and infertility due to elevated prolactine and ovarian endometrioma had 19 acupuncture treatments according to differentiated Chinese Medical Theories. She not only had reduced size of her ovarian endometrioma but was able to conceive naturally in a short period of the time.
