Anxiety and Depression
Why are more people developing anxiety even with all of the modern day conveniences? In order for humans to feel happy, we have to balance our relaxing hormones and our stimulating hormones. Serotonin, GABA, and endorphins make us feel relaxed and happy. On the other hand, fight or flight hormones stimulate our sympathetic nervous system causing us to become more alert and burn more energy. Additionally, our muscles become tighten up, and our body is ready for action. For the past twenty years, we have invented more and more artificial stimulants such as the iPhone, iPad, games, computers, and social media. All of those can help us work more efficiently, however, younger people increasingly do not use those for work, and they become addicted to using the stimulants to induce dopamine to feel happy temporarily. Consequentially, they often suffer from a lack of sleep, a lack of exercise, poor digestion. Often, this depletes their dopamine levels and they become very depressed.
The best way to fight anxiety and depression are getting a good night’s rest, engaging in more physical activity, and practicing healthy eating. The older generations practice those regularly and are able to achieve longevity while living healthily and happily. To avoid anxiety and depression, we have to change our lifestyle and routine to that of the older generation.
